Rice is a very good school. No problem with that whatsoever. USF? Nobody outside of FL will know what you are referring to by USF most likely. Rice on your resume - good stuff man.

If USF isn't even close to FSU, then why admission rate is tighter at USF than FSU?
You can try and defend USF all you want but you are wasting your time trying to do it with rankings. I just copied from US news and it lists FSU at 102 and tier 1. Either way their ranking is well above USF.

Go look at the freshman profiles for both schools and any ranking site, you won't find USF close to FSU.

USNews ranks undergraduate schools 1-130 and refers to them as Tier 1. After that, it lists Tier 3 and Tier 4. So where are the Tier 2???

Technically USF undegraduate ranks 131 (since Tier 3 are not ranked, but come right after 130). FSU at 102. Not a big difference.

And like I said, that ranking is for undergraduate. It's not indicative of their graduate programs. Notice how Rice is 17 among all the very top schools and the Ivys. However, it doesn't mean the same for graduate programs which are ranked separately. Reason why I asked the question.

Anyhow, in terms of business undergrad:
http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/rankings/

So basically for Engineering, Science, and Business USF has the hedge across undergrad and graduate. What's left for FSU? Ah yes, the partying and "maybe" the football.

I lived in Raleigh/Chapel Hill for five years which has a very high % of college educated people and the only schools people knew were UF, UM, and FSU.

Outside of those three the majority of people have no idea what other colleges are in FL.

Yes, the reason is called "Football". Reason why I chose Rice over an almost full-ride at UM and did not even bother applying at UF, let alone FSU.

FSU is only known due to football. Nothing more, exactly like Texas Tech.

I can promise you that for experience in California in the Bay Area when people hear of the Univ. of Florida, they have a hard time believing they actually have academics besides athletics.

Well Rice is a better school than all those other options. USF isn't close to UF, UM, FSU which is one big reason why no one knows about it.

So people in CA know USF but think just sports when it comes to UF? ha.

They either have no idea about academic rankings or you're really bias to USF.
