Yes, in Football. Since Carnegie Foundation and Business Week clearly proves USF is better than FSU academically.

They either have no idea about academic rankings or you're really bias to USF.
They usually don't know USF. But it's better than knowing a school only due to its football team.

There is no ranking based on the overall school that has USF close to FSU.

They don't know USF because it's a tier 3 school with a horrible athletic program. If you know anything about school rankings you know UF is a top 20 public school. If you don't know anything about academics then you'll know UF for football.

Clearly you don't want to hear that no one knows USF outside FL and inside it's questionable if it's any better than UCF but that's the reality in FL. People often are bias when they've gone to a school so really all that can be used to compare are rankings which all will rank USF as 4th/5th in FL.

With a degree from Rice and UT I doubt USF's lack of recognition will matter much anyway. Both of those others are very good schools. Even UT despite the fact they play "football".

USF is a 50 year old institution. Doesn't that put it at a disatvantage in terms of recognition? Seems like they are doing pretty well on every level academic wise. In football, it's debatable if FSU and UM are better now days. Athletics wise it's actually decent: only this year Men's Soccer won the Big East and Women's Basketball the NIT.

I never said it wasn't getting better. It's actually got a lot better and so has UCF. USF used to take anyone 10 years ago and now it's much more competitive. Who knows how much better FL colleges will get with the lack of funding though.

In regards to USF football they've built that program fast but it's been on the back of taking anyone. A report just showed they have the worst academics of any BCS football conference team. UM and FSU just have horrible coaching. With a top coach at either of those USF will be hard pressed to compete.
