HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — The smiling couple barreling ahead on the cover of Liberty magazine in 1926 knew exactly where to go. “Florida or Bust,” said the white paint on the car doors. “Four wheels, no brakes.”
So it has been for a century, as Florida welcomed thousands of newcomers every week, year after year, becoming the nation’s fourth-most-populous state with about 16 million people in 2000.

Yeah I read that last week. Well as a native Floridian (FWB/Destin area) who has lived in metro Atlanta for a decade and a half, I'm moving back due to a job relocation. Hopefully the state congress won't see fit to start up state income tax, something that costs Georgians thousands annually from each paycheck - with nothing to show for it - and keeps going up.

Yeah, people keep on posting this. 58,000 people left - how many are left here - about 18,000,000 or so? I don't think Florida is in danger of becoming "empty" anytime soon.

Not a chance the state will be empty. Surely a third are replaced by new reidents. Maybe some who left Florida are the ones we don't want here in the first place.
I feel better about being here now that I am getting away from Fort Myers, and moving down to Estero. Even the heat feels trivial. Things are a gettin better!

I feel better about being here now that I am getting away from Fort Myers, and moving down to Estero. Even the heat feels trivial. Things are a gettin better!
