Just do not move to Florida without a job first. Things are much tougher here and you won't make it on minimum wage.

I've lived on the Space Coast (Brevard County) for 18 years. If I had it to do all over, I'd have a place in The Keys and one in Western North Carolina but with that said . . .

Brevard County has a huge military industrial complex which has helped us thrive, along with tourism, Port Canaveral, and looking after the needs of thousands of retirees.

Locating jobs are not a problem - it is the unconstitutional business licensing schemes out of Tallahassee that are. I've managed to serve many clients without licensure but once in a while I'm asked and usually give the 'talent analogy'

Try Rockledge . . .

When are you going to realize many people do not work for minimum wage?

Only people with no brains and no skills work for minimum wage.

Also, if you are making minimum wage in any state and making it you sure the heck can make it just the same in Florida on the same low wage.

Min. wage is their for a reason.

Op- Lots of nice places to live in Florida, just do your research and spend some time in the towns of your choice.

Do not let someone who hates anyone with money or skills to make decent money drill your head with negatives about Florida.

Some people who are not making it in Florida cannot stand others who either have made it easily in Florida or who can show up in Florida and do very well.

Once again, if a 21 year old can go to Florida with 500.00 and a beater car and with no job lined up and make 40-50k her first year in Florida then other can to. And lives in a super nice condo to boot.

Some people want to be paid 15 bucks an hour and has little to no skills to sit on their butts is what the problem is.

Only people with no brains and no skills work for minimum wage?? Wow that's harsh. The next time you go to a restaurant or store you might want to let the people serving you there how you feel about them. What about the hard working college students and teenagers trying to make ends meet? There are many people in Florida with Master's Degrees and other high skills working at stores, restaurants, and hotels because that's all there is here. No, you cannot make it on minimum wage here since Florida is one of the most expensive states to live in. I guess if you didn't live in Ohio you would realize all of this.

All this wonderful advice coming from someone in Ohio who has never lived and worked in Florida? Give me a break. You really need to live in Florida and experience it firsthand before you can speak intelligently about it. Just doesn't work or hold credibility otherwise. These people are looking for real firsthand advice from current residents and not from dreamers. The same old story about the 21-yr old stripper has gotten very old by now. Either that or the over 1 million unemployed and losing their homes in Florida are imbeciles according to that theory. Not to mention all the employers and towns including state universities that are laying everyone off still.

To the OP: This is no time to move to Florida without a great job lined up first. Things are very bad here right now with over 1 million unemployed including teachers, firemen, police, university professors, and other highly educated individuals. Florida has always been a predominantly low paying no benefits state where employers hire the unskilled and uneducated on the cheap. So be careful. Not to mention Florida is ground zero for the housing bust. Do not make the mistake of moving here only for the warm weather as many others do. Most of them cannot find a job and end up going back home again. Florida is one of the most expensive states to live in with the low wages and sky high taxes and insurance and food prices.

Boulder and Denver are considered among the most desireable cities with great quality of life and healthy job markets. Florida never has been and cannot compete with either place. The grass is always greener.

I don't understand these posts asking for advice but provide no info about themselves or what they want.

Don't worry. The ever present out-of-state experts will chime in with how anyone can come to Florida and suddenly get rich and live a dream life on a superyacht with every toy in the world at their disposal. Yes, anyone can do it without even trying. Floridians even make millions of $$ in their sleep somehow. It must be all the oil that was recently discovered in everyone's backyards. LOL
