Canadian aren't eligible for the lottery (its to allow people from countries who tend not to immigrate to the US to come over, therefore increasing diversity). A green card is very hard to get because employers have to pay big bucks in legal fees ect and don't always want to do that.

Thank you very much for the links! I will definatly check them out!!

I would ask about the green card issue in the Canada forum.

Thank you! I have been in there. I mostly posted this on here, because I was interested to know if there Canadians out there who moved to Florida and their stories and how they like it, what they had to get used to, what the love etc etc. Along with the visa thing.

What if you are a disabled couple in there mid 40's, who both receive CPPD & WCDB. We have no relitives in the US. We would just like to move to a warmer climate & researched Palm Cost, Fl. We are just as confused as lucid day dreamer.

When you are on CPPD you need to be actively participating in your rehab program and available for all appointments--kind of hard to do while in Florida.

Also your Candian health insurance won't cover you while in the US, and sorry, but we're not interested in paying your medical bills.

Exclamation Annerk

You should really check your facts.

That has nothing to do with CPPD. I have been recieving it for last 14 years and do not participate in rehab or asigned appointments and never have from CPPD.

Workers Compensation puts you throught that until you are deemed either able to return to work or deemed permanently disabled, which I had been, 14 years ago.

And you don't have to worry about paying my families medical bills...Nova Scotia, Canada WCB pays my medical bills(concerning my disability) and my husband and I will be paying our own way!

I asked for advice on moving to Florida, not to be judged by someone how either dislikes Canadians or disabled people. Please tell me where you live so we don't end up moving into your neighborhood!

I don't dislike Canadians OR disabled people. I apologize about the CPPD, as you indicated, part of CPPD IS about receiving rehab for many people, so it was an honest mistake. I doubt WCB will pay medical to a provider outside Canada, and I really doubt any US provider would be willing to accept it--something you'll need to look in to. Also private health insurance here is very expensive, and possibly not even available to you if you have pre-existing conditions--something else to look in to.

And the clincher--You do realize that you can only stay in the US for six months at a time, right?

No. Only a close relative can, i.e. your brother, sister, parents, etc. The US considers cousins, aunts, and uncles as extended family for immigration purposes

When i immigrated to Florida back in the 80"s to take over my Dads Company it took me 14 months of back and forth paperwork to acquire a green card, today i would think it to be almost impossible for normal people with no connections to get to America as a fulltime resident. . As i had been to Florida many times before the dream of palm trees and sandy beaches had worn off to be replaced by too much hot and humid weather and way too much traffic,And unless you have connections very little in the way of quality jobs. Fortunately after all that paperwork Dad ended up giving the company to my younger brother who shortly thereafter sold the company and bought a lot of expensive toys And i moved back to Montreal, now i just use Florida for what its best suited for = vacations
