There are four majors: the Masters, the US Open, the British Open, and the PGA Championship. TPC hasn't been elevated to that level yet (though it's often erroneously referred to as 'the fifth major').

Wheeeeee!!!!!!! That sounds cool! The lack of rain sounds like a drag though.

We had massive thunderstorm last night. Although it did bring a lot of rain, the ground is so dry that it didn't make much of a difference. We are going to need a lot more that just one. It did break the humidity a bit though.

And while it may have been raining this weekend, there's no guarantee the weather will be nice for any of the majors -- at the PGA in August of 2005, held at Baltusrol (NJ), and won by Phil Mickelson (his second major), the temps were quite Florida-like.

And you know why I remember? Simple -- my father was buried earlier in the week, and I had bereavement time off. I sat in the back yard and listened to sports talk radio to keep up with the tournament -- and it was so icky, I had to move into the shade, which I never do.
The forecast is for low 80s. I used hate 80s in NY, but after living in Florida with 90s and heat indexes over a 100 for months and months, even 80s with low humidity (compared to Florida humidity) will feel good. I am packing JEANS. It will be wonderful to not wear shorts.

Watching the US Open at Bethpage, both my husband and I remarked how GREEN everything looked. I said it almost looked as green as Ireland. We live on a golf course and even though they water the greens twice a day, it is still brown/green. Nothing at all what it looked like in NY, or Ireland. It will be so nice to see dark green, big trees, and bushes.

We can get off the MN kick for now but I just wanted to throw in some facts. I remember that week well.... seeing flurries on the weekend and then driving home from work in 96 degrees like 4 days later. I'm finding a hard time getting websites to all the records I told you about breaking in one single day - my local news station filled my head with.. you know, maybe that's my problem Rhett-Butler, I listened to the media again
Yeah, sounds like you guys have been all over the weather map for sure.... Just never seen......

For what it's worth, I don't just complain about the heat/humidity of Spring, Summer, and Fall, I complain about the WINTER weather in Florida too. I don't like 70s in January or February either. The ONLY consolation is that it isn't 90s.

What people don't tell you is that that there's constant rainstorms during the humid months that cool things down. It's totally misleading to say that it's continually hot here.

but then the humidity comes right back. Right now, at least here, we have still gone days and days without any rain at all. There are signs up all over Naples "Severe Draught Emergency". Unless that changes very quicky with a lot of rain every day, it wouldn't surprise me if they start restricting water usage. They did last year and it wasn't as bad as this year.

It will be cooler out on Long Island, then, because we're looking at mid-to-high 80s with humidity here in NJ for a good portion of the next two weeks.
