We're looking for a retirement community. Has anyone visited or, better yet, lived in either of these 2 communities? Help!

I've been to both, but you've added "Tampa suburbs" (?). They're both nice places. Specifically, what are you looking for?

Citrus Hills is much more built out. You know what you get. Glen Lakes scares me.

We're looking for a 55+ community close enough to a large city for a bit of nightlife occasionaly with nice houses and ammenities that doesn't cost the moon and within 10 miles of the coast. Is that possible?? Looking at brochures, Citrus Hills and Glen Lakes both look good. What scares you about Glen Lakes?
Again, thanks for everyone's help. We are in NY trying to figure it all out!

Glen Lakes scares you?

It is a well established, gated, golf course community that has been around for over 20 years.

What scares you about it?

They are both very nice communities and both are in nice areas. I personally like Glen Lakes because it backs up to a 31000 acre preserve. I actually had bought a lot in Glen Lakes but wanted more land and ended up building just south of there.

As far as getting to nightlife. There is a little around here but to get into Tampa would take about 50 minutes from Glen lakes.
The coast is only 5 miles away but there is no large beach here, Citrus Hills would be even a little further.

The association fees for Glen Lakes are rather high but the community offers alot, I am not sure what Citrus Hills fees are.

Hmmmm... Glen Lakes is NOT scary... it and Citrus Hils are quite a ways from the city life though.

If you want to be closer to Tampa/Clearwater, I'd suggest looking at Heritage Springs in Trinity (New Port Richey).

Do you golf?

Wheres the 2nd golf course, what's going to happen with that land. will the existing golf course be turned into housing. Those are the issues brought to my attention and prevented me from considering buying there.
