Jax is a big, sprawling, overbuilt city.

St. Augustine is historic, cool, close enough to Jax and would be good if you want to be near the coast/city.

Tallahassee is somewhat isolated from any major city (2 hours to Jax), but is a meduim-sized, green, family-oriented + college town with no real blue collar industries, mainlty a white-collar economy + agriculture.

In St Aug., you may have to drive to Jax. The drive could get old quick - not to say there arent any jobs in St Aug in finance or healthcare, or in construction, but Jax would definitely have more. Construction jobs are very hard to come by right now.

The best places to live in tallahassee are the north, northeast, some parts of the east side, and Southwood (SE). Southwood is newer and is quite nice, but the older neighborhoods have more charm, better schools and bigger lots...

LOL

As bad as traffic is, if you drove for an hour in Tallahassee you would be in the next county.

Tallahassee's road system has been described as looking like it was designed by Dr. Seuss, but traffic is only relatively bad. Try driving across North Tampa sometime!
