I have noticed a lot more job openings for waitstaff, servers, cooks bartenders, etc on craigslist and other hiring venues. Are these for real or is there only 1 job with like 1000 applicants? Your thoughts?

Id imagine they are true..but being on Craigslist, I think you have to excersise extreme caution when going for a job interview cause you never know what you might be getting into ; could be a setup for you to be robbed, or worse. Id take someone with you who can at least wait outside or better yet...conceal a gun on you when you go inside just in case something terrible goes wrong . Not only on job interviews...but anything thats for sale , etc... you just cant be too sure these days. Does this make good sense ?

So you are saying that an applicant should arm themselves when going into a legitimate business for an interview? What is this, the Wild West? Not all Craigs List adds are scams. I interviewed at a dental office and a law firm--both found on Craigs List. Sorry, don't think I needed to be packing a weapon to protect myself against the kids running around the waiting room at the dental office.

True, not all of them are scams, but there are a lot out there. That's what happens when a site like that gets extremely popular too fast and there are a lack of protective measures and regulations to keep up with it.

You can't always tell which-from-which until are in the middle of being scammed. Than its too late.

He didn't say to carry a gun. He said to exercise caution, perhaps bring a friend that will set in the car.

True...not all jobs wanted ads on Craigslist are scams ; BUT , for the interviews that dont involve an obvious business like a Dental Office, etc.. ... I think it would behoove every woman to have SOME KIND of protection on her . If you dont want a small gun, then at least consider very potent Pepper Gas . The most potent can be found at www.foxlabs.com and its inexpensive ; im sure it could have saved many women from having been raped and/or killed. Im afraid America has become more of a dangerous place ... especially for women because our Government is too spineless to step in and stop the Media's grooming of Sexual Predators . Im just looking out for your best interests ; its not the 'wild and wooly west' ... I think its become more dangerous than that in recent decades.

No..i DID say conceal a gun on her when she goes in ...UNLESS its a job interview in a Dental Office or simular that appears legitimate and safe. If its an interview for a waitress position and the address is other than the restaurant for the interview, then if i were a woman, i would have a gun in my handbag/fanny pack , and loaded . Its the naive woman today who gets assaulted --- the playing field needs to be leveled and that occurs when a woman takes definitive action to PROTECT herself just in case.

Frankly anyone (male or female) stupid enough to walk into what looks like an abandoned/closed business to interview for "a job" shouldn't be looking for one to begin with, because they are what I consider "unemployable" due to an utter lack of common sense.

I've interviewed for jobs in the past with new/startup companies where there wasn't an actual up and running business yet, those interviews always took place in a public place. A coffee shop, a hotel lobby, etc. Any interviewer who wants you to come otherwise (male or female) isn't someone you'd want to work for, legit or not.

Using a little common sense should weed out 99.999% of them.

True...but, there could even be some Restaurant/Business Owners who will have the woman come into his Office which is located in the far back of the facility or down in the Basement or on the second level, for the interview ; what is the woman going to do say : 'No, lets have the interview right here amongst the Public' (??) . Heres what happened to a 25 year old woman i know who went on an Office Job interview : She interviewed with the Guy for almost an hour and everything went very well during the interview and it looked like she was going to be hired...UNTIL the Guy says : ' Ok..just one last thing....stand up on the table ' (she had a skirt on ). She immediately walked out . Its a good thing she didnt get gropped or assaulted . The advice i have for women is : CARRY SOME PROTECTION cause you never know when you will need it, and, ITS A DANGEROUS TIME TO BE A WOMAN . Am i trying to scare you ? YES ... into arming yourself somehow. If you dont like guns, and dont like Pepper Gas, then get a black belt in Karate...but DO something.
