Hello all, excuse me but i am new to this site and i apologize if this thread has already been answered. I was thinking about relocating to St. Augustine and am wondering about the current job market there. Is there a fair amount of jobs there? I work in the IT industry and pretty much do everything. If not, i know Jax is within about 40 miles and was wondering if that would be too much of a commute? Is there alot of traffic if commuting to Jax everyday? About how long would it take? Thank you

Hi there! I think you will get better responses if you post on the Jacksonville sub-forum - hopefully they can answer your questions better there.

Good luck!

The only places I can think of that might have a need for IT is Flagler College or local city/county governments. It is highly doubtful you will find a job in town in this field, although there are always exceptions.

You definately would find many job options in Jax (if they're still hiring as opposed to downsizing/laying off). Blue Cross Blue Shield, ATT (aka BellSouth), banking, Navy (civil), hospitals, governments and colleges.

The traffic congestion is mainly around Jax area, but certain roads can get clogged with tourists during specific times of day. I think the commute, while fairly easy driving, would start to wear on you each day after say 4-6 months as you would be losing approx 1-1/2 hours out of your day just to travel. (I also hope you appreciate driving in Florida! ) In a metro area this would be nothing, but St Augustine is a small town.

Also be sure to factor the costs in fuel, auto service and repairs. There used to be some commuter buses (not sure anymore), but if you missed the last one back home, you're SOL.

I'd suggest you look at Atlantic Beach or downtown Jax areas to live/work and hangout in St Augustine in your free time.

Good Luck!
