Ok here is our story in a nutshell...

DH is retired navy (Tricare/Navy base close by would be a plus)
He recently graduated to become a middle school math/science teacher.
He needs a job.

I work from home, so can work anywhere (medical transcription).

I have 2 kids in college currently at UWF in Pensacola but could transfer to another university or stay here if we move.

I have 1 in high school and I have a 6yo with high-functioning autism in a VE unit at a really good school in Pace, FL

So....we are applying for all of the teaching jobs around here but there are lots of laid off teachers who probably will get hired first. It may be this way everywhere.

How does Gainesville compare to Pensacola? Is it a nice place to raise a family? Is there a small town outside of the city (like Pace) with a slower pace and good schools?

We don't care so much about the beach, but we like to go on cruises and go to disney (get resident passes every 2-3 years). I don't want to live in a big city, and I want to feel safe (who doesn't!)

Thanks!

Not overpopulated.

Came home today to find out DH has applied for jobs in Tallahassee, Gainesville and Orlando area, so good to know Tallahassee is a nice area. We are 30 min from the beach now and only go when family comes down to visit LOL I'm hoping a college town will have good autism services!

Thanks!

Gainesville, being a college town, has it's pitfalls for high school students. The High Schools are drug infested. I do not know about the autism services. Both of my children attend public elementary school here and it is a great school ("A")
