i think it's funny how moderators are able to weigh in on how great one place is, and how one place is no longer desirable.

ex: "i am so glad i left place A for place B", etc... no way would i let my kids grow up in fla., there is no crime in tn, etc... yeah ... right...

I think moderators are simply folks on here that volunteer thier time to keep tempers and ugliness in check if I'm not mistaken. They probably get offered a moderator position when it becomes clear that they are typically good-natured and helpful and offer insightful opinions.

I don't think they are asked or required to stop having opinions after they become moderators.

Hmmm......
Hi Hiknapster,

Are you guys thinking about going back to Florida?

Maybe we just need to find a different area in Florida? We have 5 children that we have to raise and protect so it is important to have good schools and low crime rate, any suggestions?
Melbourne/Palm Bay. I have been here since '59 and will never leave.

Default Florida is a nice state w/lots to do

I hear people wanting to leave Florida especially south Florida. Florida is such a big state that people should try different areas before leaving the state entirely. I think the weather brought people there and by leaving to back up north would be a mistake. I lived in Miami for 9 years and my kids were born there. I moved back up to New England when they were very young because I didn't want to raise kids in Miami and wanted to be closer to family. Both my husband and I miss Florida very much and wish we would have moved to either Central Fla or Northern Fla. We are planning to move back with much resistance from teenage children. We will see but I don't want to retire up here where the old people just exist during the winter.

i agree - ppl leave south fla and move to ga/nc/tn w/o checking out northern fla. all 3 regions of fla are different, however, when looking into central fla, i wouldnt advise orlando after living here the time i have. my 2 cents.

I agree with that statement. I live in Orlando, exist I should really say and it's an overload of all your senses. I'm talking frustrating traffic, lines in stores, parking lots full, competition for jobs, cookie cutter homes, right-to-work state where they can fire you for NO REASON. I've never met more white trash than this place. Don't forget it's getting overrun with hispanics too. I try to be a decent human being on a daily basis.
Walmart, the school board, Sprint,(treats you really bad as a customer.) Disney are all the main employers. It's too much of everything here so alot gets taken for granted. You have to fight for many things...low standards. Thankfully I was educated up north to be a free thinker. Mickey Mouse controls here. It's a vacation state not good for the money making years. I want out....somebody said it right today...the black hole, describing Orlando.
I'm a very optimistic person but I'm tired of the fight. I came in from SC where there's southern hospitality. Ain't none of that here. Our neighbors barely speak to one another...we have Jerry Springer people next to us, real bullies. It's getting too homogenized.
The way I see it is the only way to make it here is to be married, two incomes, have an income coming in monthly, aka retired, pensions. I've noticed that's how people make it here. I'm taking a break for the summer to see if life is different somewhere else...where they value education, give you a break, and you're not just disposable, you're a valued employee. I know it's out there...the idyllic life. It'll be my documentary. moonbeam
