Purt' near, your guess makes perfect sense. I actually moved to western Virginia and am about 30 miles from the WV line as the raven flies.

Not many know the origin of the word.

Not even 30 years, many illegals heading to Tenn and W Virginia.
More like 15 years.

Got tacos?

john vosilla, although raleigh is a city full of educated ppl, i think it is due to the colleges in the area. if you think the rest of the state is like that, you are certainly mistaken.

I moved from Ft. Ld. to NC 3 years ago...and I'm coming back! To Jacksonville this time. Where I am in NC there's a bunch of Floridians that have not adapted to life here either.
This area doesn't welcome outsiders, and even though they won't admit it, they do not like Floridians here. I never felt like I belong, neither has my son, so we're returning to FL where we belong, where we are not the "damn florida people", where there are no 5 months of 25 degree weather, where all spanish speaking people are not all Mexicans, where education doesn't stop when you finish elementary school...I could go on....
Get the picture?
I don't care how expensive some things might have gotten in FL, other places (like here) there are taxes on top of taxes for everything, and the only thing that is cheaper in NC, but not for long, is housing, but not much cheaper to compensate for what you have to give up to live here.
There is no place like FL, I've lived in CA, IL, MO, and UT before, FL still my favorite.
But I hope people keep moving out of FL, then the housing prices will keep on dropping and the ones that wanna come back will get a good deal!

Wink I lived in SC a couple of years, stationed in Charleston AFB some 30+ years ago.

Remember the dueling banjos in Deliverence:
Dueling Banjos - Google Video
or for the movie version:
The original dueling banjos

Of course, there are certain parts of Cirtrus County, Levy, Marion...in Fl that I'd watch my behind also.
