There are great programs throughout the state. Florida has arguably the best high school football in the country, up there with Texas and California. Please be a little more specific, which region of Florida are you interested in?

There's one in Lakeland that is excellent, always highly ranked. There's St Aquinas (or however its spelled) down in Palm Bch County. Then there's one in Miami - I forget the name - but I'm not sure that's a place you'd want to send your kid to.

Public or private? Do academics matter to you? There are many fine football programs here in FL.

Where do you want to move? There are good programs in all areas of FL but FL is large.

Florida has the best high school football in the state. Does academics mean anything? Where in the state. Miami and Broward counties have the best Lakeland is always ranked high they have a great program. St. Thomas Aquinas is always a good one, Miami Northwestern has been top 25 many years same with St. Thomas. Most schools in Miami Dade even many private ones would be a good place to play. I played for a small private school team. Division 1A we had 120 kids per grade and I had two friends play for Wisconsin, 1 for Duke 1 for PENN, 1 for FAU, 1 for TCU and some other smaller colleges and this was a very small private school and we were not even that good, top 16 for 1A. That shows how good football is down here.

I find it rather sad that this is your chief criteria for a school....

Lakeland High School is one of the better schools in the state for football. We used to HATE having them on our schedule.

Let me rephrase. I want one of the better schools that have a great football program along with a good academic program. Preferrably in the Sarasota, Orlando or Tampa areas, anywhere close to these areas would be good.

You've also got to be aware of how good your son actually is. You can go to a school that has an excellent program, and your son may take very few snaps. However, you can go to a school where they have a good program, but not the best, and your son may be the best player on the team.

I know its hard for a parent to take an objective look at their child, but get others opinions that you trust. Y've got to remember that football in the south isn't like other places. They take it very serious here. I know Michigan people thought their local football programs were tough, they have no idea what tough is.

I don't know so much about them nowadays but Bradenton Manatee was a powerhouse at one time and Tampa Plant is pretty good too.
