Hello...

Going to install hurrricane impact windows and am going with horizontal roller type windows that slide open horizontally. Someone told me that these type of windows are easily pried open from the track...similar to a sliding glass patio door. Is this true or not ? If this is the case, I may go with single hung windows.

Thank you !

I had each type in a few of my homes in the North and in Florida. I do like sliding doors and they do not pose a security risk if they are a well made along with steel pins securing each door together at the top.

However, if I were going to install impact windows and I do not believe they are not worth the money, they would be single or double hung.

I have dogs, a great security system, a retired police officer living next to me, surveillance system and two yappy dogs that are always on alert and a loaded Taurus Judge in my night table. Now getting impact windows. In South Florida, you can never be too careful.

Burglars generally favor sliding glass windows because of their size (they break the glass), not their track. I don't think the horizontal roller is going to pose any more of a security risk.

Thanks compelled...but I have seen burglars simply life the sliding glass door off the track on older sliding glass patio doors. I am excited to get the impact windows primarily for the noise reduction it affords.

If you're happy, then you have my best wishes. Personally, I wouldn't live somewhere that I felt insecure or unsafe for myself or my family.
