Well, yes! It is possible! I did a quick search in the Daytona area. There were 119 properties in the 90-110,000 range. Many of them were small condo's, right on the beach.

Happy Hunting

There's a reason why Port St. Lucie/Vero Beach is so cheap. You need to have a job. The unemployment rate is 15 percent, which means there are no jobs. If you can telecommute or are retired it would be fine. I know that the mayor, at one point, asked if he the area could be deemed a disaster area because it is so bad, and that was last year, before it got worse.

Check out Melbourne Beach and Indialantic and the surrounding areas. They may fit your bill. Our nightlife isn't anything like Orlando or Miami, but there is a decent set of bars in downtown Melbourne and it does get quite busy on a Friday night.

There aren't too many old folks here, but not very many single women under 30 either. It's a very middle aged crowd. Most of us had to "import" our women from elsewhere!

Back to Mexico Beach/Port St. Joe area: how much traffic is on Hwy 98 off-season? Does it keep the beaches from being pleasant? Do cars park along it to go to the beach?

Should I be concerned about mosquitoes?

My in-laws have homes on Cape San Blas and in Port St. Joe, traffic on 98 in the off-season months is not bad at all but the panhandle does get cold in the winter months and it is too cold to sun bath on the beach. Mosquitoes are usually not too bad in the winter months because when you are down on the beach it is usually quite windy.

Default why florida, when you could do S.E. Asia

for $100,000 you could get a very nice place by the beach in Thailand or the Philippines. Plenty of under 30 folks, and if you're single, a special delight. If you can work remotely you are set! So consider a little travel first before you settle.

[you should be male and probably not african-american / black as there is bias in those countries. Not fun being a single white girl in S.E. asia for long term: very hard to compete with the local girls]

If don't want to live ON the water, you could buy a condo anywhere along the Pinellas beaches(Clearwater- St pete beach)in that price range. They won't be new or huge, but there are tons out there for $100k
