(Sept. 12) -- Wildlife officials seized a 400-pound python from a Florida home on Friday.

Now that they are breeding wild in the Everglades I just wonder how far north they will travel. Food is plentiful for them right up the middle of the state as far as Orlando. Maybe even into the St. Johns River area that could take them as far north as Jacksonville.

They are so worried about how far the snakes will travel...that they have set up an test location in the Carolina's......they built a fenced in area and released 12 Male Python's...to see how they can adapt to the cold weather...hope they did not make any mistakes in gender......

Good grief. The whole permit thing ticks me off. They've had her 16 years. She's never escaped, never harmed anyone and according them very docile. So they take her? Why? To make sure they have the proper permits. What BS. They're responsible owners, leave them alone.

Sad...I know he didn't have a legal permit, but he should have been given the opportunity to get one. He took care of his snakes for 15+ years. Go after the idiots that are letting them loose. This man should abide by the laws, get his permits and then get back to living. As long as he is responsible, makes sure his animals are locked up, secured, and there have been no reports of endangerment, he should be able to get the permit. He believed he was "grandfathered" in when the law was passed for the permit on this species.

There are people where I live that have zebra, donkey, free range cows, (yeah they wonder loose into other yards), ostridge, emu, etc... None of these animals are native to this area. People still own them.

This is very quickly turning into a witch hunt.

Burmese pythons will not adapt to winter very well in most places. They need warm temperatures and high humidity all year. For that reason, I very much doubt they will thrive outside of south Florida (maybe parts of central until we get an extra cool winter).

It should be against the law to have a snake that potentially dangerous in a house as a Pet. Youd think after that 2 year old lost her life from being smothered by a big snake, that they would IMMEDIATELY put forth some law . Its negligence on behalf of the homeowner who has something like that, plus the State . Life is getting cheaper all the time.
