Agreed! I just moved to Florida from NY. Yes, I had to buy two new tags. They cost around $400 each.......but that is a one time charge. The good news is;

1) My car insurance is now a better policy then I had in NY and it is now a few hundred dollars LESS. Everyone said the Florida Car insurance would be much higher....I was pleasantly surprised.

2) No annual inspections. I know there is good and bad about this, but I have two newer cars that are well cared for. What I hated in NY is that if a check engine light came on you were screwed. They are sometimes difficult to track down and fix.....and then you need to wait for the codes to clear even after it is fixed...horrible.

3) Gas is cheaper and it seems to be a better grade. I get better mileage here. My property taxes are WAY cheaper, so I do not mind a few fees. My cars will last longer as they are not covered with rust/salt, etc.

Life costs......but personally I think I'm in a better place.

Frank

Good points. Nj has cheap gas and they pump it for you. Other than that FL wins for sure. Your car will definitely last longer down here. The inspections are a racket IMO

Just moved here from Ga. Trying to find out what the title and plates will cost me. I think that it is a big state secrete. D.M.V. website only gives out worthless info.
I was told $450.00 to change over. Some joker was telling someone that they no longer charged that much anymore. I guess Fla. has enough out-of-state drivers here.
Guess that I will find out on the 28th.

I think $400 is the minimum per car that it costs. Personally, I'd renew in GA before moving and give yourself a little time before making the switch. You're only "required" to change over "within 10 days" I believe if you get employment or have a child in school.
