A small swamp town in the middle of nowhere that's made up of a college and a hospital.

What a stupid post!. As if Tallahassee is some cosmopolitan city. It has corrupt politicians and one more mall than Gainesville. That's it. Gainesville is a much more convenient location in the states being 2 hrs or less from 3 MAJOR cities. Tally is a nice town but let's not pretend that it is not 30 mins away from towns that would be great locations for shooting a sequel to Deliverance.

Please...

Tally is much more of a ****hole than Gainesville.

And there are no swamps anywhere near it, it's part of the pine uplands forest like the rest of the middle of the state north of say, Zephyrhills

And I would say, "a university and a half", if you can even count BCC as a university. They seem to have a nice habit of the students killing each other

I've been to both cities, and outside of the University of Florida, Gainesville is a hole.

And before you spout off about schools, you should atleast get it right, BCC is in Daytona Beach.

So being 2 hours from a major city makes Gainesville an attractive place to live ?

How many people drive 4 hours a day round trip ? Tallahassee doesn't have to be 30 minutes away from a MAJOR city, Tallahassee has much more to offer, I assume that not everyone is looking to move to a place for their malls ?

Gainesville is 45 minutes from Jax, 2 hours from Tampa and Orlando

Tallahassee is near nothing.

Tallahassee doesn't need to be near anything. The point of the whole thread was that Gainesville was rated as a top place to live, then it was compared to Tallahassee, obviously, Tallahassee is a little bit larger of a city than Gainesville, it's more diverse, it has more of a diversity for employment, it has a much larger selection for shopping/dining, ect, ect.

Your argument however, is fairly laughable, why would anyone in their right mind move to a city with the only plus being that it's x amount of hours away from a large city ? Why not just move to the large city that's such a bonus to be close to ?

I think it's marketing by the cities listed.
As I'm sure you're aware, Austin, TX appears on these lists quite often.
If you know anyone who lives there.. in the last few years, they've been inundated with people moving there because these "Best Places to Live" articles keep saying that jobs are plentiful, there's cheap housing...when that's just not true.

Look, I dont agree that Gainesville is one of the best places to live, but I am saying it's better than Tally, which is more than you can comprehend...

Made up of the flagship university and one of the best hospitals in Florida. Santa Fe college is probably a better school than FAMU at this point.

Let's be honest. Tally was made the capital to prevent the panhandle counties from seceding and joining Alabama. Tally is NOT a major city. Sorry, but Gainesville is just more progressive despite it's faults. BTW, Sante Fe College is a nationally ranked insititution of higher learning.
