I don't get this because

1) a lot of floridians proudly call themselves crackers and a lot of them are the same ones that get in trouble with the law all the time
2) it's not just black people saying it it's also white people that are 'crackers' and some call themselves crackers
3) I think it also refers to black cops and any other cop
4) it's always with anger when they're talking about the cops being "crackers"

Fill me in on this if you can because I have never really understood this

Never heard them called "crackers". I suppose that's better than a lot of other names.

The real term FL Cracker comes form the crack of the whip that was used to drive cattle out of the brush before FL had cops. It's a cowboy term.

No. Just an old term for a FL cowboy or pioneer. Go to the Cracker Country exhibit at the state fair.

It is a derogatory term towards white people. Similar how the "N" word is used towards blacks. Most blacks who use the term are referring to white officers, who they feel are racist and unfair. Goes back to the old days, when blacks were treated poorly by whites.
