Gem, I've only been in FL for a year but I lived for a short while on the west coast in Tampa and now live in Palm Beach County on the east coast. Palm Beach County has high crime as well as Broward County and Miami Dade Counties. I would suggest going to Indian River County which is on the east coast of Florida in a town called Vero Beach. It's great for families, in fact my daughter and her husband live there, lots of nice places to take your family and the beaches are great there. You're still close to Orlando, about 2 hours.

I believe that if you buy a business and it meets all the US criterias you have to re apply to re-enstate your visa every 3 years and basically it depends on the mood of the person dealing with your application as to wheather you can stay in the States so you will have to decide if you could deal with this every 3 years as no matter how long you are in the States you will not be elegible for a Green Card.
Due to this reason we have waited 12 years to get a Green Card because I am lucky enough to have an American brother.
Sorry if I seem to be spreading doom & gloom but I'm sure you would like to know all the facts.
There is a good emigration bi monthly publication you can get in the UK called "Emigrate America" which you can subscribe to on line or phone them on 01323 726040

Best of luck

Lee

Hi everyone, sorry to jump in on this post, however my partner and I are also thinking of moving to the US, I have a few questions of my own if anyone would be kind enough to answer them. I am a prison officer and have been for over 14 years, would this be classed as a specialised job?, my partner has got a degree in management. I have also just been accepted as a police officer, which obviously I am debating about. All responses will be greatly recieved. Amanda...x
