Ugggh! We're so tired of struggling, and things appear to only be getting worse. It's been said that Florida will be one of the last states to recover financially, and we're living it daily. Bill costs climb, cost of living increases are frozen and people are still being laid off left and right.......

I'm in Nursing, hubby is in technology.

Where to go?

We want wide open spaces, quality people and schools to raise our children....

I've lived here all my life and I'm broken hearted about it, but we're convinced we will just NEVER prosper here

Your not alone. We are looking at leaving Florida, we are looking at California or Atlanta. What I suggest is get a map of the US, AAA has them. And fill in the states you wouldn't move too. You will soon see what states are left. Then start researching those states. When we did this the first time, we had 8 states left hat we would consider moving to. We are down to two now after visiting the other states a few times.

Have you tried at looking at other parts of Florida first?

We looked at Cali too, but I'd like a big wrap around porch with rocking chairs... The real estate there gave us sticker shock!!!

Depends on your priorities. In addition to your professions you should consider - educational opportunties; your preference in climate; how large a city/urban area are you interested in; the arts and entertainment offered; green spaces and recreation (if that's important to you); distance to a major airport - if you anticipate travel often; commute times; affordable housing.

When we left Florida - career opportunities were first, followed by the education system. Climate was not very important but we wanted to be in a metro area with short commutes and lots of recreational opportunites. We ended up in Minneapolis -very different than SFl, but even with our temperatures this week (brrrr!) we are very pleased with our move.

I wish you all the best.

I suggest Eastern TN for you OP.

Many people (I'm a native myself) are heading to (like doggiebus) North GA, NC, SC, TN.

You said: "We want wide open spaces, quality people and schools to raise our children." --> NC, TN, Upstate SC...

I packed up the husband and our two younger girls and left Florida for Oklahoma City a year ago. We really like it here and hope to buy a house in another year.

Heading to a beautiful little town in NC in the very near future. The people are warm and friendly, climate is not too severe any of the seasons and the cost of living is far better. Not worried over jobs...we'll be retired.

Going back to TX, I regret almost every single day I moved to this god awful swamp with Moderator cut: Flaming no pay, I'm almost ready to start from scratch and to hell with everything, don't care anymore, Orlando SUCKS and so do the people. I seriously would take living in ANY TX town small or big than this dead end state.
