I have never seen a Gator on the roads where people live. I have seen them on the canal banks or in the canal in neighborhoods, but not in the street. I have seen iguanas sunning in the streets however. So I wouldn't be too concerned, unless you are going to live out in the boonies.

I am 50 years old and grew up along the coast of FL (Daytona) and still live here. I have only seen alligators a few times, a couple of times in the shallow water near my parents' home on the St. John's River and at Gatorland when I was a child!

I saw an alligator last summer (rainy season) in the lake behind my lanai on the golf course. Several female golfers started screaming when they saw it. It just swam away. It didn't even bother ducks on the water, let alone the people on the course.

I also had an iguana crawling up the screen of my lanai too.
