I just went through this in VA. I thought I had all my documents including a military ID and old license which in the past had been all I needed. I have been married over 20 years and still had to show my marriage license as SS # and birth certificate are in my maiden name. I saw alot of frustrated people having to leave and return with the documents. After it was all over, I was told they would mail my ID to me in 2 weeks and gave me a "paper" copy to use. Unfortunately, rental car agencies are not familar with this and I was unable to rent a vehicle when I needed to.... I also wonder how this will work for people traveling on the airlines if they only have a paper copy of their drivers license (no picture on the paper copy)....

Only good thing is here in Va it is valid for 8 years...

This is ridiculous. I have already produced these documents, once ought to be enough.

Hope they don't start that crap here in TN. As far as I know all you have to do here in TN is show up with you old license & say you need to renew them. They take your old license, fill out a form, take your money, take you picture, hand you your new license, & your out the door. At least that's all I had to do in 2007 when I renewed mine. I was in & out in under 20 minutes.

I wanna move to FL, hopefully by July, but I haven't made up my mind if I'm going to get a FL license or not. Not to mention registering my car in FL from TN would be a pain in the butt. Not that I would have to pay any more sales tax (my car was bought in 2005 & we have a 9+% sales tax), but the stinking plate fee or whatever of like $200 is insane. Not to mention all the other fees they wanna hit you with. I may just keep my TN tags & license. I can always renew my license online & have my mom get me my tags & mail them to me.

Keep in mind that you might have a difficult time registering to vote here in FL if you don't change your tags and license over, and you can still get called for jury duty in TN if you have tags and a license there.
