Lol - i really am in the wrong state - my heat is set to 72 here in ny - I guess 70 would be fine if I lived in Florida.

We have central electric combo A/C and Heat. On these cold days it is set at 68 during day and eve, and turned off while we sleep.

we get cold if its under 74 in the house. guess we are thin blooded Floridians now.

when I grew up in West Palm Beach (60's-70's) we didn't have central heat or A/C just a small propane heater in the living room and we would all run down there and get dressed in front of it in the morning before school. Brrrr. And we weren't really poor, that's just what people had then.

This is so true! I'm a Fla native, but when my family moved down here from the upper-Midwest,before I was born(early 70s), they were shocked at how cold it could get in these CBS-construction homes. None of the homes(from mid-60s to mid-70s) that my family, extended & immediate, moved into had central heat or AC, I'd say that became popular at the end of the 70s. It was not much compared to the -30°F that they had to deal with before the move, but they were genuinely suprised that South Fla could get so chilly. My house only came with a gas fireplace, that's it. My mom had the gas taken out and central AC/Heat installed when I was just a baby(late 70s or early 80s- can't remember exactly), and now we put it on(the heat) when it's in the 50s at night, we rarely run it during the day. We are on a large lake that is part of a system of deep canals so the wind comes off the water and it does get quite cold so we will probably have our heat on thru this wk. Does anybody use a fireplace?

When it gets below 65 in the house we turn the heat on. We set it so it stays around 65.

It doesn't matter what the temperature is outside, when it's chilly inside the heat is on. 68 at bedtime, and it bumps up automatically to 72 an hour before I have to get up, and then back down during the day while I'm at work. Central forced air heat works of the HVAC heat pump.

I recently had this same discussion with my mom. What difference does it make where you live what the heat is set on? 70 in the house is 70 in the house no matter where you live and no matter whether its 0 out or 50 .
