So, its happened, during lots and lots of researching, we've fallen completely in love with the charm Cedar Key, Florida.

Does anyone have tips/tricks/must-sees for this lovely little Key?

Also:

- advice on getting there (we find its cheapest for fly from Minneapolis into Orlando and then probably rent a car and drive?)

- nearby beaches? Cedar Key looks lovely, but lacking in this department(?) but we might want to spend a day at the beach, even if we have to drive to it

- Has anyone stayed at the Island Hotel and Restaurant? or Kingfisher Rentals? Where did you stay when you were there?

Please shower me with your local Floridian wisdom! I'm so giddy at the possibility of sunshine and above zero temps its not even funny!

There really isn't much to Cedar Key.There are a few neat resturants and some shops. I'm not to sure about a public beach but there are a couple in front of the motels. You could probablly cover the whole island in a few hours. They have a real small airport where a guy gives scenic airplane rides. I had some friends who came down a few years ago and spent a week up there. They really liked it. The bigger beaches are quite a drive from there.

You're probably better off flying into Tampa and renting a car. It's a litle closer to Cedar Key than Orlando.

Yes, and Cedar Key was awful, IMHO. All artists, gypsies, hippies, one-member families, filthy dogs and ultra-liberal dog lovers. There are no white sandy beaches, just beat up old homes, rusty tin roofs, hardly any eateries, people have a real attitude. I hated it there and could not wait to leave!
