My husband and I are looking at properties in Vernon, Bonifay, Fountain, Freeport, Chipley and DeFuniak Springs. What is the average commute time from these areas?

If you are talking about Pensacola NAS... the commute time would be between 1.5 - 2 hours ONE WAY. We used to live in DeFuniak Springs and it was about 90 miles, or 1.5 hours to Pensacola NAS on a good day without traffic.

I'll also state that DeFuniak Springs is in the middle of nowhere, you have no movie theaters or anything out there and you only have one wal-mart. The nearest BestBuy, for example, is over 90 miles away (in Pensacola) Bonify is slight bigger than DeFuniak, but not by much and again, no movie theaters or anything... and you'll be lucky to get Broadband internet in either one of these places unless you live close to downtown.

There are Best Buys in both Destin and Panama City that would be far closer to the central panhandle towns than Pensacola.

Based on the fact that Fountain and Chipley are included, I would bet the OP was asking about NSA-Panama City.

Chipley and Vernon are about the same distance away -- about an hour. DeFuniak, too. Freeport and Fountain are about 45 minutes away.

As the area builds up, though, traffic will increase and the commute times will get longer. Also, Vernon, DeFuniak, and Freeport will take you through the HOT HOT HOT and growing area around the new airport, which will mean more people and more traffic. Eventually they will have to build "Back-Back Beach Road" to alleviate the congestion.
