I have been in Florida all my life and have never seen a love bug season like this before. Tons of them little suckers all over the front of my truck. You have to clean them each day or the acid will mess up the paint on your car/truck, You can't see out of your winshield after 5 minutes on the road, This is the worst year I have ever seen. But on the bright side its great if you own a carwash !

What is a lovebug ? "Love Bugs are small flies that are in the process of mating when they swarm over the roads. So usually there are two individuals: the large one is the female and the small one is the male. The female usually gets her way and she drags the male around with her."

Better than fruit flies. At least love bugs don't get into your house. Last winter, Feb. 06, was the worse for fruit flies. You couldn't walk away from your beer or wine without having a few take a nose dive.

I read that they could be worse in the fall My husband has to go to the carwash every night after work. I would like to go for a walk outside, but the things gross me out. We are in a condo complex w/ black asphalt, so they are just freakin' everywhere no matter what time of day.

And scientifically, they are flies, which is even more gross. Ready for them to leave!

NY has a similar bug, the Adirondack Black Fly, that comes out for a couple of weeks a year. They bite hard & leave a HUGE welt. I will take the Love Bugs any day over those things!

I don't think those were Fruit flies. Usually if they find even two fruit flies it is big news and they begin spraying.
