Happiest States: Hawaii Moves into First Place - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20100216/sc_livescience/happieststateshawaiimovesintofirstplace - broken link)

Can't believe FLA (I'm thinking Tampa) is so low. Beaches, no state income tax, affordable housing, major league sports, arts/concerts, nice climate.

I've lived in Hawaii for several years and enjoy the beaches, climate - but it is very congested, expensive, and you get this thing called "island fever".

what he said

Southern States Are the Happiest

Here's how states are ranked by happiness levels:
  1. Louisiana
  2. Hawaii
  3. Florida
  4. Tennessee
  5. Arizona
  6. Mississippi
  7. Montana
  8. South Carolina
  9. Alabama
  10. Maine
Of course the happiest state of all is when ___________ (fill in the blank).

There's nothing but disgruntled New Yorkers here. Not hard to believe at all.

Florida was ranked one of the three happiest states in the country! So I have no clue where you came up with this other stuff.

Didn't you see the link? It was a Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index from interviewing 350,000 people. Might be that their metrics are very different than other polls (quality of life, employment opportunities, quality of education, etc).

I am a very happy new yorker. I know some other very happy new yorkers. I know some disgrutled ones that moved down here and became happy.

Not quite sure I know what you are talking about.

Well, I didn't read the article in the original post, but happiness tends to correlate to employment. Who cares about beaches when you can't afford to go to them on a regular basis? Considering we are one of the worst states regarding unemployment, it is no wonder we placed 35/50.

(yes, Wikipedia isn't the best source, but still...)
