Hello me and my wife who are both Active duty will be relocation to Tyndall AFB in September. I was just curious if anyone could give us information on the local area. We are both young and are trying to find where to live, we want to live in PCB but have heard the traffic is terrible. Does anyone know how long the drive from PCB to Tyndall is with traffic. Thanks

Don't bother w/ the PCB area. Your daily commute will be 45 mins easy depending of course on your work schedule. If you're a shift worker your time may be a little less. Seeing how you say your wife and you are young, maybe it'd be better to take base housing. Overall the area isn't bad, it's what you make of it, as with anything.

Thanks for the info! When I said we were young, I meant 25. Haha, you're as old as you feel, right? We've been overseas for the past 4 years and are looking to take advantage of the low housing market. The Lynn Haven area looks nice, but we wonder if we're going to want to be down near the beach for restaurants, bars, nightlife, beach, and fishing. The only time we've been down to PCB was for spring break ourselves, pre-Air Force, so we're only familiar with the Front Beach area, where we definitely do not want to be. The commute is a significant factor, but we're comfortable with about a 20-25 min drive. Do you any other nice areas within that radius? Again, thanks for the info and interest.

Lynn Haven is nice. Lived there recently myself but moved on. I'm not sure how much rent has reduced in that area if any but if you're both AD I'm thinking SrA/SSgt at least. Your BAH will cover it easy depending on what your target is. Have you looked on MilitarybyOwner.com - Real Estate near U.S. Military Bases yet? There's another site too but I can't think of it off hand but this one is good. Have you received a sponsor yet or did you elect not to have one?

From Lynn Haven, you can get to the beach in 15 minutes or less depending on traffic. As far as other area's...kinda hard as everything here is in pockets w/ good neighborhoods/bad. You don't really have a BAD side of town but you have areas where you may not consider calling it home. Coming from overseas is going to be an adjustment esp if you are coming from Germany, Ramstein/Spang.
