This is untrue. FL and the hurricane reality is a far cry from what we in VA or MD worry about. We don't have significant hurricane risks or tornado risks...no major snowstorms... The rare earthquake but nothing major. Virginia is beautiful, particularly central. We're far enough East to get less snow than the 81 corridor, but still get nice seasonal differences. Just saying, for folks who want a safer natural disaster risk, there are plenty of places that have options available.
Fl may face more issues, but it is a larger State than VA and VA is not free of major issues.

Hurricane forum on CD has some great tools on hurricane a activity and storm surge.

Wind damage from hurricane's declines as the will d speed drops. It declined once it hits land most always. So inland locations can avoid the brunt. But the greatest threat is storm surge. There is an interactive storm surge map there.

Storm surge and the flooding from heaven related rain are are the greatest killer. Interest from the storm surge predictor the golf coast side sees greater inland storm surge than along the Atlantic coast. Must be elevation rising closer to the coast there. Elevation can be your friend to avoid flooding inland. Did you know west of Orlando near Claremont is over 300 feet above sea level. Stay out of drainage areas there and flooding should be very rare even in heaven hurricane rains.

Construction techniques are your second friend to minimize wind damage so buy newer.

I've been in hurricane's and tornados. Give the tornado risjk ant time. The damage is in very small areas and the forecast tools also predict areas of risk better each year.

Worth noting the much hated humidity and hurricane prone areas do get rain fall and avoid the water shortage risk the worshipped California and desert SW may face

Hurricane Michael just proved it again last October. Looks like a buzzsaw paved a trail right into sw Georgia from landfall near Panama city moving NE. Inland of course the deadly storm surge isnt going to be a problem but big rain could bring severe flooding. It takes a major hurricane time for winds to wind down and if the storm is moving fast it will effect areas well inland. Its not rare for inland areas to get raked in a major storm.
