A lot of those kinds of places have drainage ditches. I would say that when a local commission decides to add curbs it has to do with controlling flooding. I can drive around town and see curbs then no curbs and water seems to be the reason.

Perhaps for the same reason most of my area in Brick NJ (Ocean County) does not have curbs. On the other hand, everywhere I have traveled in Naples FL has curbs.

I have a sidewalk and a curb in front of my house.

My mother, on the other hand, does not.

can i also add i have noticed our neighborhood roads are a lot narrower than what i grew up with as well....(I'm from VA) barely enough room for 2 cars to pass each other here.

My prior house in Clermont didn't have curbs, probably because it was a very low end development. I never thought about this before, but curbs definately make a neighborhood look more finished.

Another thing is, most curbs are in combination with a sidewalk. This can take up maybe 10 feet. If the city has not had them in the original city planing they may not be able to even do it without encroaching on your property line. Most people would be shocked where their actual property line is. The city may own 10 or 15 feet of the street side of their property and they don't even know it. You plant grass and trees or build driveway, but should the city want to use the property or widen the road you come home one day and find a back hoe on what they thought was their property or a new side walk almost at you front door with your tree lined front yard gone.

Ha - what is with the no sidewalks in Florida? On the other hand, I had no idea that curbs played a part in proper drainage, but jeesh louise - why no sidewalks.

I asked the realtor about this LOL and she said you sure are worried about these sidewalks LOL.

I don't know, call me crazy but I like my sidewalks.
