Hi everyone- need to relocate for work to S. Florida. My wife and I have two daughters under the age of five. Obviously, schools and safety are extremely important. We can live anywhere between Port St. Lucie and Miami. Depending on how long it takes for us to sell our house just outside Atlanta, we will probably rent a single family home first, and then buy next summer.

We would appreciate any insight at all.....thanks!

Betwen Port Saint Lucie and Miami-Dade County you have Broward, West Palm Beach, Martin. The most recommendable is Broward or Martin. Broward is cheaper than Miami-Dade and Martin is waaaaaaaaaay cheaper than the rest...

Great idea about renting for a year, this way you get to know the area a little better before you purchase something. Do you know where your office will be, as this is a large area, and very different at the same time? I personally wouldn't suggest raising a family in Miami-Dade and I probably wouldn't live in Martin County as there isn't much there in my opinion. I would look at Palm Beach and Broward County.

I am going to move this into the Florida section so that you can get comments about the other three counties, not just Miami-Dade.

new Weston resident (transplant from the midwest) and it's great for families (nice parks, schools, safe). I hear cooper city is nice but when I was looking they did not have rentals- it's mostly an older home community. I hear Boca Raton is good for families who like to be closer to the beach but I have no experience with that. I hear their schools are good as well. Good Luck!

Many opportunities in Port St. Lucie and schools have improved greatly over the years.
