So! Still have our house on the market here in TX, but our needs have altered on whatever we do end up with in FL. We still have the five year old (good thing, haha) and the husband (good thing too), not sure about the older one coming south with us (we worked out, hopefully, a better living situation for him for now), still have the dogs (3 puny mutts). This means that we won't necessarily need a very large home (good, less for me to clean).
Definite needs for anywhere in FL - close to a town and shopping (at least the basics), pretty close to a decent elementary school, middle and high schools where there isn't too too much controversy (just would like to keep the bomb threats down, not that my school didn't have a few in my day in NY, but we did only have one race riot, so that was a plus, right?!). We would like to keep our spending on a home on the lower end (without putting us in a really bad area). The home would have to be in a place where one can get out and ride a bike without worry, take a walk, etc. I don't mind locking my doors (think I can handle that). Want a sense of community (I know, this will probably be the hardest wish on my wishlist!). Where I am now I swear people are allergic to the sun, the cold, talking to you, etc. Never met a bigger bunch of flakes in my life. There is the odd exception, but, like I said, they're odd. I'm flexible with a capital F, but still would like to not have to use the car for every bottle of milk, would like a small garden - something like Mayberry, but with a bit of edge, not a puritan ya know! Haha.
Oh, I suppose we could go anywhere from let's say Palm Beach area on up to Viera - that should give me more than enough to choose from. I'm kinda partial to the 'Old Northwood' area of Palm Beach, but not 100% sure on that, I think I'm just in love with old houses.
Oh, and we no longer have a motor home that we'd need to garage, will be renting first (finally getting smart) so we can poke around and see what we really, really want to buy and where.

Check out St. Petersburg! It's a city full of historic neighborhoods. Kenwood, Round Lake, Old Northeast, Crescent Lake, Euclid/St Paul and Old Southeast are some great examples of neighborhoods with well-preserved historic homes. Each has considerable community involvement in terms of neighborhood associations and planned activities (meaning they're actually pretty sociable) and the schools are fairly decent since many of the parents are involved in the process. St Petersburg has a lot to offer in terms of things to do and is a great place for biking (Check out the Pinellas Trail!).

Some people just cant handle the heat, its not their fault its to do with how the body deals with heat and not all bodies handle heat effectively.,it doesnt necessarily make them flakes or odd.

People here are totally flakey. The say they want to do stuff, then never do, you can invite them over to swim when it's hot (and they don't have pools) but they won't show and then complain about the heat and how they would love to come for a swim.
