Name some of the auto manufacturing plants in FL....LOL.

Florida unemployment: Florida unemployment rate fell slightly in January to 9.6 percent - OrlandoSentinel.com

Florida's statewide unemployment rate dipped to 9.6 percent in January, the Department of Economic Opportunity said Tuesday.

Florida's jobless rate is now at its lowest level since March 2009.
Reporting the unemployment rate from the standards used is inaccurate and deceptive IMO as the rate does not include people that gave up looking for work or exhausted unemployment benefits...

The unemployment rate in Flagler (13.5 %) and Volusia (10 %) counties... Unemployment rate holds steady in Flagler, Volusia counties - Breaking News (http://www.news-journalonline.com/breakingnews/2012/03/florida-jobless-rate-dips-local-employment-unchanged.html - broken link)

I suspect, as do others, that a more realistic number would be closer to the 25-30% range...Most of us know how the "powers that be" love to blow smoke up our a$$....

Your rate is useless. The unemployment rate no mattere what you use to calculate is relative to other US states. All that matters is what the government and stock market goes by.

So we were 9.6% in January and we're down to 8.7% in April?

This "data" tells us that many folks are rolling off of the extended benefits and are not counted as unemployed. (when your benefits run out, you are counted as "employed" - how strange is that?)

Also, many are dropping out of the labor force altogether, or going back to school. Labor participation rate is the lowest now going back decades.

FL is no longer eligible for extended federal benefits, so you're looking at around 23 weeks of UE at $275/ week max.

Inexplicably people aren't counted once they run out of benefits, so the numbers seem like "oh yay, things are better". Meanwhile the number of Floridians on food stamps has increased each month over the past year. It's not rocket science figuring out the link between the two sets of numbers.

Exactly. They're no longer counted once the benefits run out. Just came out this week that the Tampa Bay area leads the nation in foreclosures.

Then add in all the people on food stamps that weren't on them before, and not just in FL.

We're in an election year, so all of sudden the numbers have improved.

The numbers are from the same calulation they always have used. At some point you have to drop someone who can't get a job. They basically are not employable in many cases.
