Everything costs the same as the rest of the country but your pay hasnt changed. My niece came here 2 years ago starting out as a new teacher and she is leaving in three weeks. They now want them to take a pay cut and she cant afford to live now. Everyone i know who has moved here hates it.
Did you move here without first checking the job market for your vocation?

As far as teacher pay, I read they got a 5.5% increase this year.

Default Spring Hill

Come now, everyone does not hate it in Spring Hill. It is just the better of the choices we had for our tastes, wants and needs. You must give to get sometimes.

True, one cannot survive on the $7 or so an hour most of the local employers pay. I dont think it can be done anywhere in the USA. Must have two wage
earners or no debt including no mortgage. Then it is barely do-able.

You must travel south to Tampa, Clearwater, St. Pete to find decent salary, but it costs you in transportation time and costs.

If you don't have 2 wage earners, making a living wage in Spring Hill while trying to own a house, run 2 cars, etc. is not going to happen unless you are quite fortunate or are a great car salesman.

Spring Hill is not the place if you need big bucks to live. If you can buy your home for cash, carry no to little debt and have some money in the bank for back up you can do it. Getting a job is not easy with the big chains. They go by a personality profile that seems very few get lucky enough to match. Its not that you walk in, get an interview with the manager and start on Monday. There is work, maybe not as much right now due to the down turn in the economy. Depends what you do, there is a lot of service oriented work here. CNA, RN, the medical trade. The rest of it is small town America. What jobs would you expect to find in say, Tahos New Mexico should you have decided to move there?

Default What are some good areas in Spring Hill?

If you don't like the seclusion of country living that's available in the rolling hills around Brooksville, the only other really decent place to live is on the west side of Hwy 19 on the waterfront. Preferably around the warm all year round crystal clear waters of the Weeki Wachee.
Spring Hill is just the place on basically flat ground they filled up with houses to sell to those who don't have a clue how to really live. There are 1,000's of other places like it all over Florida.

I've lived here over 30 years and still don't really understand why people move to Spring Hill.
Originally, it was because the people were cheap.
Don't know if it's still true today.
