REALLY thick and mushy. So I tried WHITE rice. HORRIBLE! Way overdone. It was so mushy there weren't even any individual rice grains visible. It had the consistency of thick mashed potatoes.
As there's no way to change the time it cooks, it's so "convenient" you just pick the button for brown rice or white rice, I don't even see how I can change it. The only option I can think of is to keep lifting the lid and checking on it, and THAT'S certainly not you got to convenient!!
The brand name is "Aroma". Anyone else have one of these? Anybody WANT one of these???? I'm about to toss it out on the lawn!
WOW! bummer... Yes I can sympathize with you!... I was wanting to get one too! thanks for posting!! I have one of those $10 dollar cheap ones ( the small one) thank God it was a gift cause it's a pain! have to keep the lid tilted so it vents properly cause if you don't it gets too hot, did I say hot? With white starchy stuff splatter's everywhere! Then you gotta clean up the mess! and never mind the automatic warmer that burns the rice! then you have to soak the basin and scrub the lid!

Yep!! pain in the you know what !

So... I guess I'll go back to the good old fashioned way,... using a good old fashioned pot with a lid !! Sometimes the ***KISS***
method is the best way!

On the rare occasion that I do make rice, it's 6 minutes in the pressure cooker. Perfect rice.

Years ago, I had an Aroma rice cooker. Did not like it.

Mine is a cheapo Sunbeam one that I got with Kohls Cash, no options, just an on/off, and it makes perfect, fluffy rice. I'd recommend decreasing the amount of liquid.

Op, I have heard nothing but rave reviews online and from my friends about this device, which is multifunctional and not just a rice cooker. If I didn't already have a dutch oven and a rice cooker (the kind you buy at an asian store - those are your best bet), I would totally buy one of these just based on what my friends say:

Amazon.com: Instant Pot IP-DUO60 7-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker with Stainless Steel Cooking Pot and Exterior, 6-Quart/1000-watt, Latest 3rd Generation Technology: Kitchen & Dining

I suspect you're using the wrong ratio of rice to water.

I follow the directions that came with the machine as to rice and water amounts. Silly me....

Yeah, play around with it no matter what the directions say, given your results. It's probably either not getting hot enough, so not enough liquid is evaporating, or the automated timer calibration is off. See if you can compensate by decreasing the water or broth. Maybe too many bells and whistles on that particular model.

Also, do you rinse the rice prior to starting? That can account for MAJOR texture differences.

Sometimes, directions do not work. If it is too mushy try less water. There also could be a defect in the machine itself.

I have an Oster that works perfectly on white rice, have never used it on brown rice because I don't know if you're supposed to try to keep it on longer or what ..
