The hot dog is definitely having its day. Here’s our frank guide on where to find the country’s best tube steaks.

Can someone vouch for Pink's? I've always heard that they were good hot dogs but didn't Bobby Flay beat them on Throw Down?

IMHO, Pink's is horrible. I can't remember the last time I've had such nasty chili. Most L.A. natives avoid it like the plague, and not only because of the idiotically long lines. It's a tourist trap with amusement park-quality food. There's a good reason they've managed to eke out only 3 stars out of over 2000 reviews at Yelp.com.

We know where to get good hot dogs. Pink's ain't it.

Interesting, although frankly (sorry couldn't resist) if I'm visiting those towns, I'm not about to seek out a place just to get a hot dog - though that said, I do want to get a Chicago dog IN Chicago one of these days.

PS where I come from, "tube steak" had a diff meaning Never heard a hot dog called that-? Is it a west coast thing? Or called a snack either, actually, although I have had them as a late-night snack more than once

It can mean that here as well, however, it must be taken in context. If your granny says she's heading out to eat a tube steak, well, you can figure it out.

Due to popular demand, I'll post a few places where good hot dogs can be found in L.A.:

Skooby's, Hollywood
Cupid's, Northridge
Fab Hot Dogs, Reseda
Oki Dog, WeHo
Hot Dog Lady, Echo Park
Uncle Ced's, WLA
Vicious Dogs, NoHo

The best hot dog in my area comes right off my grill.

I'm in Chicagoland and I don't care for Chicago style hot dogs. Well, they aren't terrible but they aren't impressive to me, either.

This may be considered blasphemy on the food forum but one of the best hot dogs I've had that wasn't off my grill is from Sonic.

Yea! for Bens Chili Bowl, a Washington DC institution However my favorite would be a chili dog from the Vienna Inn in Vienna VA, with chopped onions and an icy mug of draft beer
