or Is there any culinary hope for the younger generation?

I heard an attractive young woman with two children in tow, ask the clerk at the grocery store, "Do you have those special potatoes with the plastic on them for making baked potatoes in the microwave?"

Wrong on so many levels.

Oh, nan5623, where have I failed?
What's the plastic for? Why do you need to pay $1.+ for a potato? IF I wanted plastic on my potato, which I don't, I'd put it on myself for free.

I would buy that potato if I didn't need a bag of potatoes...such as if I was staying in a motel/hotel with a microwave. No telling just what the person was doing.
Heck, it's still a potato...and any potato is worth the money!
Gotta love potatoes!
(Yes, a 5 pound bag is better than anything...except a 10 pound bag or more!!!)

Dear Attractive young woman:

Buy some potatoes. Wrap them in Saran, then microwave them.

Asked and answered.

I can get a bag of taters for less than $2. From time to time the 8lb bag is .99. I can then get plastic wrap for less than $2.

Tah dah... With an extremely minimum amount of work she could do this herself. Yes, I microwave potatoes in plastic wrap. It's actually really good.

SOO wrong!!
I'm 23, and my mom and g-ma taught me how to cook. I do everything the hard way, and dirty every dish in the house, but my food tastes amazing

What store do all of you shop in???? Yes, I have seen the taters you mention, but you don't have to buy a who bag. You can buy ONE INDIVIDUAL potato without it being wrapped in plastic. Furthermore...I wash ALL my veggies. If you buy it wrapped...you can't wash it before cooking it.

Buy a SINGLE potato
Wash it well
Slit the potato down the middle
Wrap it in a papertowel
Microwave it (depending on size and if one or two, etc...could be 10-15mins or more on high) I always check in about at about 8mins and then every 4 thereon until it is done.
Dress it and eat it....skin and all. See, I washed mine...I know it is clean if I want the skin...I know I can eat it..no prob!
- Note: once done, you can spread a little butter on the skin if you want and slide it under the broiler for just a few mins to crisp the skin. YYYYUUUUMMM!!!

Why on earth would I want to pay more for ONE potato wrapped in plastic that I cannot wash.
