Oatmeal most mornings, leftovers, corn on the cob, asparagus with a little bit of water & seasonings in a casserole dish for 3-4 minutes comes out nicely, plain chicken thighs or breasts that I cut up for dog treats.
Oh, and I found the most fabulous recipe for Microwave Caramels recently!! I used to stand over a hot stove stirring for an hour or so, checking with a candy thermometer---never again (not that I make caramels often, but for special occassions).
I used to do Caramel Corn in a paper grocery bag in the microwave. I forgot about that until I started thinking hard about weird things I've cooked in it. It was kinda cool really, putting all those ingredients inside a paper sack and cooking it!
My friend makes individual servings of cake in a coffee mug. Then instead of frosting, she pours a bit of Bailey's on the warm cake. Yummmeeee!
Probably 15 years ago, give or take. At first, yeah, exciting. But, we like good home cooked meals and we reheat in the toaster oven - it reheats things like pizza to actually taste and look good not just be something to eat!
Acquired my first one in the seventies and have had one always since then. I use it several times daily. My dad read how bacon can be cooked in a plastic plate, but, he overlooked the warning to use a microwaveable plate. Of course, the hard plastic plate melted and he never tried it again. I wanted a microwave the first time knowing about them.
Last night I nuked a head of broccoli and a couple of black bean burgers for dinner.
I use mine mainly for reheating, and sometimes for cooking vegetables.
Last time I used a microwave was about 15 mins. ago & I'll be using it again within the hour.
I pretty much use the microwave for one thing only: re-heating my mug of tea so that it's above room temp.
I may re-heat the ever-decreasing cupful of tea several times over the course of a few hours.
I leave the mug in there in between re-heatings, so the drink doesn't get lint/dust/hair in it while sitting out.
