What do you think, we always had ketchup/soy sauce/mustard/hot sauce/bbq sauce on hand growing up, I don't really think its a regional thing but what do you guys think?
Thats true. I also keep some mango habeñero sauce on hand.
I'm allergic to soy, so naturally don't cook with it. Even when I wasn't allergic to soy though, about the only time we ever used soy sauce was for chinese-style sautes, which we rarely ate. I never liked the flavor of soy sauce. We use a lot of ketchup, Canola oil mayo, and spicy mustard, as well as other various marinades.

I'd say the American version might be unhealthier, as most soy products in the U.S. come from genetically modified soybeans.

I'd agree that the American versions are less healthy but it has absolutely nothing to do with GMO, which is completely safe, and everything to do with the fact that it has so much more salt then the Japanese versions.

Well, I don't want to get into a battle, but some studies say GM grains are not safe. We're all just guinea pigs.
Anyone that has a good asian market should be able to acquire a good Japanese soy sauce, the ingredients are very simple and I would guess its going to be free of genetically modified anything. Cheaper than soy bought from a major grocery store.
Well as I'm Aussie my American kitchen is half/half - but I've ALWAYS had soy sauce in my pantry, and yes, I will try to find the genuine article where possible - definitely a better flavour. I LOVE dim sims (kind of like potstickers) dipped in soy sauce.
