Hotdogs used to make me feel ill after a while. The initital taste was good, but I oculd only eat 1/2. After learning what was in them, I didn't eat them for many years. Plus the whole 80% fat thing was a little gross. Being a former Newyorker, I do kind of get a longing for hotdogs, though. Nowadays, I get the hormone-free gucci hotdogs from Wholefoods. I can eat a whole one of those.
I would totally love a white roll, but I can't bring myself to buy white bread, so I eat them on whole wheat rolls. LOL They're really good. Juicier than the ones with all the chemicals and there's no weird aftertaste. I like a dog on a toasted bun w/ sauerkraut, mayonnaise, relish, ketchup and mustard.
I also like a hotdog w/o the bun with cooked sauerkraut(w/ sugar, pepper and sauteed onions) and boiled potatoes. Yesterday, I had a hotdog and brown rice. I had some cheese dogs once from WF that were awesome. They kind of burst with juiciness. LOL probably lymph. oO So, I think regardless of what you put on it, a good one to me is sort of juicy.
A group of investors, including Phil Romano (owner of Romano's Macaroni Grill and Fuddruckers) plan on taking regional Syracuse favorite "Hoffman's Hot Dogs and Sausage" national starting at 67 stores in the Dallas market by Memorial day weekend. They then plan on starting a line of Hoffmans Hotdogs casual restaurants across the nation
Works for me, my 2nd favorite dog behind Sahlens and just above Zwiegles. Luckily I have a meat market down here that "imports" Hoffmans
Our school cafeteria used to serve the most awesome beef footlongs on the main lunch line, with chili and cheese, but the "food police" made us replace them with regular sized "lite" hot dogs. They aren't so popular with the kids. Our ala carte area (where the students must pay cash) still serves all beef corn dogs on a stick.
Start with a brand with the flavor you like, Hebrew National or Oscar Meyer beef for me. I always grill them, but "compelled" soaks them, so maybe I'll try that.
I ALWAYS buy NE style buns and toast them. This is critical to a good hotdog. Then, I only want mustard, relish and a little bit of onion. I do not get the chili on hotdog thing. I would be open to trying some coleslaw on it maybe.
sabrett or nathan's hot dog with sauerkraut and mustard. Yum! or melt butter in a pan and lightly pan fry the bun and then placed the grilled hot dog in it.
Toss out the wieners and use some good sausages. We have at least 3 brands/types at our market. About the same size as wieners but 10 times better tasting. Those with mustard and a good chili!
The best dogs are from Chicago...poppy seed bun....sport peppers, sweet relish....deli mustard.
I have to agree with you! When I visited Chicago, I wasn't just amazed with their thick and thin crust pizza. I thought their hot dogs were spectacular. Don't they also put celery salt on Chicago hot dogs?
Yes, they do put on celery salt on hot dogs. Something about a Chicago dog...can't be replicated. I don't know why...is it the bun? The peppers?
