Yeah, 28 minutes is quite a long time to achieve a dark roast. I read that that is one of the challenges of that model. Here's a really good review about it, here, if you haven't come across it yet.

I usually keep my roasts Medium/Med-Dark (Full City+ to Vienna). I used to go dark all the time, until I discovered that it tends to roast out the origin flavor for most coffees. Indonesian coffees do dark the best, while maintaining origin flavor, such as Sumatra.

That is because the flavoring process is not natural. They spray the beans with that junk right as they come out of the roasting chamber, because that's when the beans will best absorb it.

Like most flavored coffees, but hazelnut is my favorite. I also prefer my coffee rather "weak." My mother says I drink "colored water."
