Whether it be at a resturant in bustling downtown or at a quiet night at home with your lover, describe what your perfect or dream dinner would be. Food, atmosphere, setting, etc.

For a very special meal I like small, dark and characterful restaurants with short and seasonal menus , quiet and romantic in atmosphere. I like my restaurants to serve fresh, locally sourced food whenever possible, humanely reared meats, sustainable sourced fish.

Anywhere half way decent with the person I love is always going to be great but "the" perfect setting would be something like this ( all the following are fairly expensive but perfect for special occasions ) :

The Witchery Restaurant in Old Town, Edinburgh information, Contact, Photos, Book, Fluid Edinburgh & Customer Reviews

The Witchery by the Castle hotel. | Edinburgh Picture - Yahoo! Travel Guide UK

Above are photos from "The Witchery" a wonderful restaurant in Edinburgh (about the most romantic restaurant I have ever been to, no electric lighting, candlelit only , very gothic and bewitching atmphosphere, superb food too)

Or :

Lovely restaurant in Kennebunkport ME we had a wonderful meal at on our Honeymoon last year.

Or :

Gee's Restaurant & Bar : Gallery

Or another great favourite of ours :

Or :

http://www.saint-amour.com/signed-giovanni-maur,4 ( Food out of this worl, fantastic service, and beautiful atmosphere)

Or if you want to take a mortgage out for dinner of a lifetime ( incredibly expensive and yet their reputation is so, so deserved) :

Or :

http://www.lejulesverne-paris.com/ ( Fabulous food and amazing view and the only place in Paris you don't have to look at the Eiffel Tower a building I loathe)

Or :

http://www.tripadvisor.in/LocationPh...Aquitaine.html ( wonderful setting, great regional food, great service ,perfect place for dinner)

Or :

http://www.ila-chateau.com/caze/ ( Fairytale little castle in stunning setting with maginificent food)

Or :

http://www.wickinn.com/inn.html ( you just can't beat the setting )

http://www.wickinn.com/restaurant.html ( possibly the best steak I ever had ever with maybe the exception of Argentina- Mind you ALL the beef we had in Canada was absolutely superb).

All above have lovely, beautiful menus too.

My ideal menu would go something like this :

Amuse Bouche

King Scallops pan fried with crispy Pancetta, Cauliflower foam ( or puree) and Black Pudding /or served with a Lemon Beurre Blanc
Or
Simple Spider Crab white meat served very a litte lemon home made mayonnaise

Grapefruit or Champagne sorbet as a palate cleanser

Fillet Steak ( served very blue) served with poached spicy pear red wine sauce ( or Bearnaise) , with Wild Mushrooms ( Morels and Girolles would be nice) , vichy carrots and a potato rosti

or

Venison fillet served with winter root vegetables, and a rich wine and juniper sauce with pommes Dauphinoises

Platter of Artisan cheeses and breads

Grand Marnier Souffle

or

Lemon Syllabub

This would make a perfect last meal for me. I could then die quite happily !

For more casual occasions though I love places which serve simple but very fresh food, be it Sashimi or the best regional foods of whatever country I am in.

Sometimes there is nothing better than some good bread, good cheese and good butter or a hearty heart-warming Cassoulet or a great Panzanella Salad for example.

One of my most memorable "foodie" moments was on a deserted beach in the Highlands of Scotland eating Mussels we have gathered from the beach ( best I ever had, plum and juicy and so sweet I have never tasted better since) , sitting with the glorious backdrop of one of the world's most beautiful spot as a dining canvas.

Beans and rice, thick and spicy. Black beans Brazilian style, or red Beans Louisiana style.

Cooked by someone else. (My SO cooks, or takeout.)
At home, sitting on the floor using the coffee table.
Watching a good movie or listening to music.
