We have Bake Sale fundraisers all the time at work. Different groups have one going all the time for various charities. We figured out that when we asked for donations we did better than when we priced things. Everything is individually packaged so people can pick it up and go.

I will both contribute as well as buy from our bake sales.

We also recently did a Cake Walk fundraiser at the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. That went over fantastic! Many people were interested in taking home a cake.

Having said that, we pretty much know who is making what. At work it is a big deal to see who makes the best items and packages them the best. If anyone ever got sick, found a hair, etc. in a baked good it would be all over for that group so everyone takes great care.

If I walked up on a fundraiser out in public that I wasn't sure about the hygiene I would probably just give them money in lieu of a purchase.

If it makes a difference I live in east TN where home cooking is a big part of everyday life.

It's funny you mentioned that, Beretta. I wondered how location figured into people's answers. I voted yes as well.

There are some places where you will find that people head to Costco to purchase goods for a bake sale. Those are the ones that I avoid like the plague.

Hygiene isn't the reason I don't buy from people selling outside Wal-mart (for example). For me it's more of a "worlds colliding" kind of thing - I don't buy girl scout cookies when they have a stand outside wal-mart either.

On the other hand, I don't go to church to worship but would go to just about any church to buy baked goods or pierogies or other yummies. Someone sets a grill up in a parking lot? I'll take two of whatever they're selling

Of course, as long as it's NOT in front of a Walmart or some other dingy-looking store! In front of churches and at yard sales...I'll take 'em all!

Homemade goodies are always a treat...just don't put poisonous chemicals, mind-altering drugs, as well as knives and other sharp objects in them. Thanks!

Interesting the folks who won't buy the very same items being sold by the very same church if they're in front of a Walmart.

What is it, are you afraid of getting Walmart cooties or something?

Will you buy girl scout cookies in front of a Walmart (where I most often see them being sold)?

Yes, but I'd like the cupcake without the cat hair.

Good luck with your fundraiser. And don't forget to set up a table at your church after services!
Agree. I didn't even know there was any worry about it. My only concern has been that it be really tasty!

Do you really want to learn about the acceptable filth levels as permitted by the FDA?

No...you don't.

And the FDA is regulating businesses involved in processing food.

They sell them in front of Walmart as 1) Walmart generates more traffic and 2) a lot of the other chain stores, like Target, don't allow them to do it. A couple of years ago Target did the same thing to the Salvation Army ringers until they saw teh public reaction.
