If we "return to real sugar", and didn't use any corn sweeteners at all, there wouldn't be enough agricultural land in suitable areas to grow enough sugar to meet the demand.

With no corn sweeteners, no increased sugar production, and no imports, and no expansion into the Everglades, the US sugar industry would just barely be able to keep up with the requirements of soft drink consumption alone. (7 million tons)

Those crooks in the FDA and big grocery business can call it whatever the hell they want; I'm still going to avoid it any all other artificial corporate "food improvements" like the plague that they are.

The marketers of manufactured products are now selling perceptions, rather than realities.

Soon the producers will be manufacturing only perceptions, and no realities.

Then what do we do?

Everything is way too sweet! If we cut the amount of sugar added ( cut in half would be great, more even better!) then we would not need so much sugar at all...

Default 'Rebranding' High Fructose Corn Syrup

" I’m sure you’ve seen it. The new campaign for high fructose corn syrup in which the Corn Refiners Association, reflecting on changing consumer sentiment around high fructose corn syrup, have decided to rebrand and rename their product, petitioning the FDA for a name change, calling high fructose corn syrup “corn sugar.”

Down here, you can buy cane syrup, made in Louisiana from sugar cane. It's an expensive luxury, but wonderful.

That is assuming that all sugar is made from sugar cane. It isn't.

Yep, the world has enough diabetics as it is. No wait, that didn't sound right. There are too many people suffering from diabetes as it is, and all of the co-morbid problems associated with such, like heart disease, kidney disease, blindness, loss of limbs, etc, etc, etc. A little sugar is good, a lot is not. Sugar is a treat, not a food group, or rather, it's not supposed to be. I mean, they sweeten everything these days--even salad dressing and lunch meat. I heard that beet sugar is grown from GMO beets but not sure if it's true b/c I haven't checked it out for myself. I buy cane and try not to use too much.
