Have you seen the ones that are not shaped like regular tomatoes? For a seconnd or two I honestly thought someone had tried to cross a tomato with an ornamental pumpkin.
They are amazing. Try them roasted with a little garlic, drizzle of good olive oil and really high quality balsamic or sherry vinegar. Toss a little thinly sliced basil in when done. So good.

At a local produce stand they said folks turn up their noses if the tomatoes weren't perfectly round and red. What a shame we've become such a "want it now perfect" world. Sad.
Purple Cherokee are fantastic if you get a chance to try them.
Isn't "heirloom" a catch-all term for cultivars that are older and haven't been hybridized (at least recently)? So there should be lots of kinds of heirloom tomatoes in addition to the crazy looking ones that the OP linked to.
And yes, I'm sure they taste great.
