Last year's canned pumpkin shortage worried pie makers and caused unusual behaviors like hoarding and profiteering. I admit I heard about the shortage early and managed to score several cans to get me through the season. This year, however, there's a good crop and you won't have to get your product on the black market

I remember making pies from real pumpkins but that was long ago. I'm seeing pumpkin stands in my community where July's fireworks stands used to be. But I'm not sure if those gourds meant for jack-o-lanterns are good for pies.

Mmmm pumpkin pie with fresh whipped cream is my favorite pie EVER!

I hoarded a few cans last year.

ETA: Pie pumpkins are usually small QW, not big like the ones we use for Jack O' Lanterns.

There was--and like QW, I was hoarding, too.

I still make at least one pumpkin pie from a genuine, plump pie pumpkin every year.
I nuke the pumpkin and go from there.

But I also make pumpkin muffins (I have a really good recipe, have posted it before), pumpkin bread, and multiple pumpkin pies throughout the holiday season.

So those cans come in handy.

I heard about the shortage last year but the shelves here in PA were always stocked full so I didn't get the shortage thing. But I bought a three pack at Sam's anyway and hoarded some myself

Pumpkin bars sound really good! I might just make me some this weekend.

Thank gawd; I got sick of hoarding canned pumpkin and paying up to $4 per can when I could find it.
