What foods or spices do you find hard to digest? Which foods or spices seem to upset your stomach? I've been unable to eat more than a child's portion of food in recent years. I eliminate thinks like bread (which i love) to leave room for other things. I find grits hard to digest and rice very easy on the stomach.
I have so many dang food allergies I can hardly digest anything these days. No dairy allowed, no tomatoes, chocolate, walnuts, peanuts, nitrites, MSG, tea, coffee, corn, beans, cola, caramel coloring...But it's OK, I can have all the celery I want.

Fried foods seem to cause me heartburn and discomfort so I don't eat it as often. I seem to develop too much phlegm from dairy products but that does not stop me from eating it. Also, I avoid my favorite curries and super spicy foods unless I have easy access to restrooms in case it wants to exit my body FAST
Spices, as a rule, if they don't have additives like wheat, for example, actually help my digestion...especially the ones in Indian food....like curries. I"m gluten sensitive, so wheat is OUT for me....otherwise I get horrendous heartburn. Also, foods like crackers, chips, or other grain based processed foods that have heated oils and fats give me irritable bowel. Basically...if I stick with plant-based foods, I'm fine, but when I start grazing on processed foods, I'm in a lot of digestive discomfort.
I learned a lot from reading Breaking The Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall....she was trained as a biochemist and knows a lot about why some people's colon and digestive system cannot tolerate a lot of foods. But I've had to learn to listen to my own body as well.
Anything deep fried in any amount will give me terrible acid reflux. Which is a double-edged sword, because I looooooooove fried foods...but it also limits me from eating them in any large amounts, which is a good thing.
