Legal Meat, but alas dont think you can order whale leagally in United States unless you are Eskimo or Intuet Indian. So wonder what tops the list here in United States?
The most expensive thing I have ever heard of here in the US is veal, most butchers in my area dont sell it because the per pound price is more then Filet mignon. Second to that that is Lamb and Filet.
i'm not sure on seafood prices because I dont buy it. As far as imported Beef, Kobe beef from japan.
It's from Wagyu cattle and it ranges from $50 to over $100 per steak depending on cut.
The cattle drink beer and get daily massages.
TOKYO — Two sushi bar owners paid more than $100,000 for a Japanese bluefin tuna at a Tokyo fish auction Monday, several times the average price and the highest in nearly a decade, market officials said.
The 282-pound (128-kilogram) premium tuna caught off the northern coast of Oma fetched 9.63 million yen ($104,700), the highest since 2001, when another Japanese bluefin tuna brought an all-time record of 20 million yen, market official Takashi Yoshida said.
Yoshida said the extravagant purchase — about $370 per pound — went to a Hong Kong sushi bar owner and his Japanese competitor who reached a peaceful settlement to share the big fish.

Face it folks, the oceans are so overfished as it is now. Before I finally go to my grave i'm sure there will be a few more extict creatures on this planet. Anyone ever watched whale wars on TV?
The Japanese in the past have ships which will harpoon the whales and processed them onboard,since beef and even pork are scare,whale meat is a common staple.
You will see a can of meat with picture of a cow ,but inside is whale meat in sweet sauce.
Food ,esp animal protein is expensive in Japan.
The Japanese are healthy because they eat a lot of seafood and even land veggies grown with soil soaked in sea water,contain lots of anti oxidant.
